Be Secure In God's Love

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?... (Romans 8:35, NKJV)

Many of us know theoretically that God loves us. However, we find that in spite of this knowledge, challenging situations do not cease to come our way. And when they come, we sometimes begin to question if He truly loves us. Some start to wonder, "have i sinned?", "have i done something to offend God and He's suddenly become unfavorably disposed towards me?" "Why has He stopped loving me"? Well, such questions only reveal that deep down in our hearts, we weren't really secure in our belief that He loves us.

Beloved, God loves you. He demonstrated his great love for you by sending Christ to die for you while you were still a sinner (Rom. 5:8). The appearance of challenges in your life does not mean that God has stopped loving you. No matter how rough the situation is, God's love for you remains permanent and unchanging. In fact, He loves you as much as He loves Jesus. And He wants you to be rooted and grounded in that love such that absolutely nothing can separate you from it or cause you to doubt it.

Challenges come and go, but His love remains the same. That is why Paul asked in Romans chapter 8:35-39, "Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? And he went further to answer, "I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord". (Rom.8:35, 38, 39 NLT)

Jesus, knowing fully well that the father purposed for Him to die for the sins of the world, remained unshaken from the assurance of the father's love. It was that security that saw Him through the season of death, burial, and resurrection. Beloved, during your challenging seasons, the Holy Spirit can do the work of unveiling the depths of God's love in your heart. He makes His love so real to you that even when circumstances say otherwise, or death stares you in the face, you know that you know deep down in your heart, that God still loves you.

Therefore, as Apostle Paul prayed, "I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God." Amen! (Eph. 3:16-19 NLT)
