When Men Fail To Help, Don't Be Disappointed

I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (Psalms 121:1, 2 NIV84)

When in dire need, it's typical for us to look to the people around us who, in our estimation, are able to meet the need. However, if for some reason, they don't help, we become hurt, disappointed, and sometimes offended. As this scenario repeats itself, we develop a 'blacklist' of people who we tag undeserving of our love, mercy and goodness. Thus, leaving behind a trail of broken or unhealthy relationships - simply because they didn't help us.

Beloved, don't think it strange when people can't help you and end up disappointing you. Realistically, people (including yourself) as wonderful as they can be, are not always in the position to offer the help we need. They would help if they could. Even when they can help you, but choose not to, they don't have to end up in your bad books.

When this happens, it's time to remember that God never meant for people to be your 'ultimate' source of help. People (including yourself) are not yet perfect, so they are prone to disappointing. But God is the perfect one who will not disappoint. He is our 'ultimate' helper, and it is He who enables us all to be of help to one another. When you need help, He responds to your need by working through different people at different times so they can be of help to you.

You see, God is the one who does not get weary and tired of helping you. He is the perfect one whose strength and abilities are inexhaustible, whose resources are unlimited, and whose access knows no boundaries. For these reasons and more, He alone is perfectly capable of helping you by raising the help you need from any corner of the world.

Therefore, if someone refuses to help you, don't hold it against them, look to God, make your request known to Him, and He'll help you by raising someone to meet your need. Besides, the more we all become like God, the more able we are to help one another, and the less likely we are to disappoint. After all, you have not always been able to help everyone came to you, and would therefore want them to be understanding and forgiving towards you. Truth is, the more you learn to depend on God for help, the less disappointed you're likely to be with people when they fail you.
